Dorothy Kahn’s heart was first touched by God for missions in 1991. For many years she and her husband Marv went on short-term missions trips to Thailand, the Philippines, and Mexico. During that time, they served as senders for many missionaries in the field. They developed a strong desire to reach out to the Karen refugees in Thailand, and to the Internally Displaced People inside Burma.
In July of 2005, God laid upon their hearts that it was time for them to serve Him full-time in Thailand. In February 2006, Marv and Dorothy began serving with Partners Relief and Development. Marv and Dorothy served together for nearly five years in Mae Sot, on the Thai Burma border and in Chiang Mai. One of their achievements was to learn how, and then teach the refugess how to make soap to bathe with. Such a simple thing, which we take for granted, had a profound postitve impact on the lives of the oppressed refugees health. In October of 2010, Marv ended his 13 year battle with cancer and went to be with the Lord. After 42 years of marriage, Dorothy realized that the Lord’s calling on her life had not changed, so she continues to serve in Thailand. She has now spearheaded a Weaving and Sewing Project that teaches Thai and Burmese ladies how to sew, so they can earn income for their families. She also oversees the Soap Project that she and her husband started. Many people continue to be trained in soap making, which is providing a much needed resource for hygiene and health.
